General Admissions Requirements
Entry into the EMT Paramedic program, as a matriculated student, is by selective admission. All students applying to the Paramedic Program must meet the following requirements prior to admissions. Any questions regarding these requirements should be directed to the program director.
Applicants must meet all the requirements listed in the COBLESKILL catalog for admission as a matriculated student and the following requirements:
- Applicants must be currently certified in New York State as an Emergency Medical Technician or an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician. EMT or AEMT certification must be maintained while the student is in the paramedic program. Preference will be given to applicants who have at least one year of pre-hospital EMS experience.
Applicants must not be convicted of or currently charged with a crime or crimes that would prohibit certification as an EMT pursuant to Article 30 of the New York State Public Health law and must be willing to sign a student affidavit to that effect.
- Applicant(at his/her own expense) must satisfactorily complete a health evaluation, and submit a Health Evaluation form completed by a NYS Licensed Physician or licensed healthcare provider. The form must include a record of required minimum immunizations as specified by Bassett Healthcare, State University of New York – Cobleskill and the New York State Department of Health.
- Applicants must be physically fit to perform the job of an EMT-Paramedic as speified in the NYS Department of Health functional job description for an EMT.
- Applicants must submit one professional and one personal letter of recommendation. Letters from family members are excluded.
- Applicants must agree to abide by all policies of COBLESKILL, Bassett Healthcare, the Paramedic Program and the NYS Department of Health.
